December 2005: Gift-Giving Tips

Wow! Another year is winding down and the holiday season is fast approaching. It’s time to celebrate with family and friends. For many of us, gift-giving is a big part of these celebrations. What do we buy for the people who have everything? Do we ourselves need another gizmo to trip over?

Consumable gifts are always a good choice: a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates, jams, jellies or a gift basket full of goodies are a few good ideas. Perfume, body lotion, nail polish are some more good ideas! I like giving these types of gifts because I know that people will enjoy them and they won’t collect dust!

Give the gift of time: a night of babysitting for example. Gift certificates are great if you know the receiver will use them. Most salons, stores, restaurants have gift certificates. Do you know their favourite store, movie theatre, video rental place or coffee house? You can’t go wrong with gift cards or gift certificates.

Charities are also a great idea! Making a donation to a charity that is dear to the person’s heart is a way of letting them know that you are thinking of them. You could be helping some needy people and your friends and family will thank you for not buying them something that they either don’t need or don’t like!

Remember. Don’t buy for the sake of buying! Put some thought into your gift-giving!

Have a happy and safe holiday season!
